Waqf (amendment) bill 2024 On july 8 2024 parliament (Loksabha) introduced waqf amendment bill to ammend the 1995 waqf act to improve the administration of waqf board and manage waqf properties. Features: This bill amends provisions of 1995 and purposes lots of changes these changes are- *Renaming the 1995 waqf act- 1995 Waqf act is renamed by this act as (Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development Act of 1995). *Criteria to declaration of Waqf board. Bill introduces some eligibility to declare a waqf board that is- (i) declaration (ii) recognition based on long-term use (waqf by user) or (iii) endowment when the line of succession ends (waqf-alal-aulad). According to the bills it allows only a person practicing Islam for at least five years may declare a waqf and they must own the property being declareed.
